Thank You to all who Volunteered in the 2006 Great American Cleanup Event

This year 77 volunteers took part in The Newport Community Pride Event.  14 teams spread out through Newport Township, cleaned 35 miles of roads, picked up 348 bags of garbage, 393 tires, and 420 bottles.  A total of 18,692 pounds of garbage was picked up by volunteers with PennDOT workers following right behind to remove the debris from the streets.

The week of April 17th we also sponsored the big junk drop off open to all township residents, 10 volunteers worked 144 hours to separate recyclables and assist residents with junk they brought into the Recycling Center.  Throughout the week 5,400 pounds of tin, steel, cast iron, aluminum and appliances were recycled, 18,980 pounds of garbage was collected and discarded.
